How to Choose a Stay in Koramangala: A Practical Checklist
Koramangala is one of Bengaluru's most popular places to live: startups, colleges, cafés and good connectivity all within a few blocks. It's also full of PGs, and they vary a lot. Photos and listings rarely tell you what daily life is like.
This checklist covers what to check, what to ask, and what to look for when you visit. Take it along on every viewing!
For most women, this decides everything. Look for specifics, not general promises.
Entry control: Is entry secured by biometric, key card or a guard, or can anyone walk in?
CCTV: Where are the cameras (entrances, corridors, common areas)?
Visitor policy: Are visitors logged? Are there fixed hours and designated areas?
Women-only building: Is the whole property for women, or are floors shared?
Staff and management: Is someone responsible on site, and can you reach them at night?
The street outside: Visit after dark. Is it lit and active? How far is the nearest main road or auto stand?
If a PG can't answer these clearly, treat that as an answer.
Koramangala traffic is heavy, so "close" on a map can mean a long ride.
Check the commute to your office or college at peak hours, not on a weekend.
Note the nearest metro, bus stop and the usual auto and cab availability.
Find the nearest pharmacy, hospital, grocery store and ATM.
Ask about noise from nearby pubs, roads or construction, especially on weekends.
Ask to see the actual room you'd get, not a model room.
Natural light, ventilation and working windows
Bed, mattress, wardrobe and desk quality
Attached bathroom, water pressure and hot water
Power backup, Wi-Fi speed (test it yourself) and charging points
Whether you can choose between single and sharing rooms
You'll eat here daily, so don't skip this.
Ask for the weekly menu and which meals are included
Check the dining area and kitchen for cleanliness
Ask about dietary needs: vegetarian, jain, allergies
Find out whether there's a kitchen, fridge or microwave for your own use.
The difference between a place to sleep and a place to live.
Laundry: washing machine access, drying space and timings
Common areas: lounge, library, terrace, games
Wellness: yoga or fitness options
Parking for two- and four-wheelers, if you need it
Housekeeping frequency and maintenance response time
[At RB Elizabeth: complimentary Wi-Fi, a library, an open terrace, board games, free yoga classes and a snack vending machine.]
Every PG has rules. Make sure you can live with them.
Curfew or entry timings, and what happens if you're late
Visitor rules and overnight guest policy
Notice period and lock-in terms
Rules on cooking, music and sharing common spaces
Ask for everything in writing before you pay.
Monthly rent and what it includes (food, Wi-Fi, laundry, housekeeping)
Security deposit amount and refund terms
Extra charges: electricity, AC, laundry, parking, late fees
A written rental agreement with the notice period and refund conditions
A receipt for every payment
Read Google reviews and look for patterns, not single complaints
Talk to current residents if possible
See how the PG replies to bad reviews
Reluctance to show the real room or let you meet residents
Pressure to pay a deposit the same day
No written agreement or no receipts
Vague answers on security or visitors
Rules that change from what was promised
Who is on site at night, and how do I reach them?
What exactly is included in the monthly rent?
What is the refund policy on the deposit?
What's the notice period if I leave?
Can I speak to a current resident?
